After this, he went up^{1cf. Mt 20:17, ἀναβαίνω} to the adjoining borders and into the region^{2cf. Acts 18:23, χώραν} of Syunik.^{3cf. Agath 786} There, he was received^{4cf. Hebrews 11:31, δέχομαι} with God-loving obedience by the prince of Syunik, who was named Vaghenak, from whom he found great cooperation^{5cf. 2 Cor 1:11, συνυπουργέω} concerning his projects, till he had seized^{6cf. Acts 27:13, κρατέω} upon the whole region^{7cf. Mark 7:31, ὅριον} of Syunik. He gathered the male children in order to instruct them—especially those from the feral, savage and brutish regions.^{8cf. Agath, 839} And with so much care, he reared^{9cf. Acts 7:20, ἀνατρέφω} and admonished^{10cf. Acts 20:31, νουθετέω} them, like a guardian,^* even to the point of appointing from among these savages a bishop and overseer of the church in Syunik, whose name was called Ananias, a holy and illustrious^{11cf. Acts 2:20, ἐπιφανής} man who was like a father to the heirs of the church. Then the land of Syunik became filled with groups of monastics.

At which juncture it was granted by God that the valiant Sisakan^{12i.e., hailing from Syunik} Vasak—a man intelligent,^{13cf. Gen 41:33, φρόνιμος} knowledgeable,^{14cf. James 3:13, ἐπιστήμων} and prudent, graced by the wisdom of God—rose to the head of the principality of Syunik. He made a great contribution^{15cf. Acts 18:27, συμβάλλω} to the teaching of the Gospel, showing devotion^{16cf. 1 Cor 7:35, εὐπρόσεδρος} to him as a son to a father; and serving him in accordance with the loveliness of the Gospel, he carried out the tasks he was commanded to do right up until the end.
