Agathangelos' History of the Armenians

[And to those] who will read of the nation of Togarmah and about the evangelization of the divine gospel and the Word of Life in Armenia, as to how and why they received it, by what sort of a man, or to whom this revivifying grace was shown by the Apostles and by whom it was revealed by divine grace. Concerning his illuminating teaching and the virtuous course of his angelic life; concerning the noble patience of this powerful and graceful nahatak, who was found to be a confessor of Christ and a martyr of the truth; as to how [the country] was thereafter edified, pacified, flourished, made fruitful, and healed by God through his prayers; and how, by his divine love and the power of Christ bestowed unto him, the cults of vanity fell and shattered, and godliness spread throughout all of Armenia. As to how churches were built in Armenia, and how the cults of vanity were dissolved, which had toiled uselessly because of the habitual aberration of [the country’s] ancestors, and reflected the idiocy of [gods] made of stone and wood and their insensate idolatry to them. They were as though senselessly intoxicated, petrified by their profuse sins; delirious with their gods, they fell like dregs into the sea of sin. But by the will of Christ, he preached righteousness to everyone in Armenia, that they not be fastened to the heels of sin in this oceanic world. Entering the tranquil harbor of God’s design, he prepared for them lodgings of life eternal.
