Such a pearl is the splendor of both soul and body. Through their [those who love God's] intercession does God prosper the earth, for it is on this account that they put themselves in danger and navigate through the tempestuous sea of sins that grip the world, waging an arduous war against its waves, gliding through its crests and troughs to arrive at the harbor of peace of the Heavenly Captain. Then, safe at last from the tempest of impiety and on arrival to the [Heavenly] city, they dedicate a crown of glory to the king of light and prepare themselves for everlasting joy with the precious pearl, crowned with gems of spiritual light. These are the ones—who sold their lives to those who betrayed them to torture—whose souls were exalted, who built the world up without harm or turbulence upon the foundation of their vessels of faith.
