For many are disposed to engage in commerce due to such misfortunes. Then there are many who use their affluence to benefit the country, adorning kings with expensive pearls, varieties of precious gems and colorful silks. And they exalt the poor and enhance the country with extraordinary new discoveries; they fulfill the needs of man and minister to the needs of many people; they fill the houses of doctors with fragrant medicinal spices and herbs, and root extracts for those in need; they adorn their cities and dignify their regions; they are intendants of long journeys and travelers of the land; they taste of foreign lands and bring joy to all; they [increase] the capacity of the country and of many people; they clothe the naked, sate the hungry, quench the thirsty, and lay up provisions for the rich.
