About Saint Shaghitay.

This saint Shaghitay had been a disciple of the great Daniel. Having been raised in the wilderness since youth, he lived on herbs with the hermits there. After the death of saint Nerses, he went to the district of Korduk, where he performed miracles and lived among lions (over twenty of which always roamed with him). Whenever one of the brutes was hurt, the pride would surround and pull at Shaghitay so as to demand his healing. Once there was a large lion whose forepaw had been pierced by a reed. It went up to the mountain where saint Shaghitay was staying and, like a human, lifted up its paw and showed him the wound so as to have him heal it. Saint Shaghitay extracted the reed, spat on the wound, wrapped it with the kerchief on his head, and healed the lion.

Thus he performed myriads of miracles. Brutes passed their lives with him, accompanying him daily as he wandered through the wilderness. Whenever he came to a river, he would cross it by walking upon the water without getting his shoes wet. Whenever he went down to some populated area, he corrected many who had gone astray by performing signs and wonders. He roamed by himself, and whenever he came to populated areas, he healed many who were sick. This was in his old age.

Now everyone was anticipating his death, so as to snatch his body. But Saint Shaghitay realized that many people were lying in wait to take his body, so he prayed to God that this should not happen. Then, on a certain day, while he was crossing the river of Korduk, walking on the water in his customary fashion, he suddenly fell underwater and disappeared. Great mourning befell the district, and a countless multitude gathered and came to surround the river on both sides. They looked for St. Shaghitay’s body but could not find it anywhere, for his request to God had been fulfilled.

Յաղագս սրբոյն Շաղիտայի։

Շաղիտայս, այր սուրբ, էր լեալ աշակերտ մեծին Դանիէլի. եւ ի տղայութենէ իւրմէ սնեալ էր համակ յանապատս, եւ ընդ անապատաւորս խոտաճարակ լեալ էր: Եւ յետ հանգստեան սրբոյն Ներսիսի գնաց չոգաւ ի գաւառն Կորդուաց, եւ առնէր նշանս եւ սքանչելիս, եւ բնակէր ի մէջ առիւծուց. աւելի քան զքսան առեւծ հանապազ շրջէին ընդ նմա հանապազորդեալք: Էր զի լինէր զի յորժամ ցաւ ինչ ցաւէր գազանացն, գային շուրջ պատէին զնովաւ, եւ ձգձգէին զՇաղիտայն, եւ նշանաւ առնէին խնդրել զբժշկութիւն: Եւ էր երբեմն զի առեւծ մի մեծ, եւ էր ելեալ եղէգն ընդ թաթուլ բազկին առիւծոյն, եւ եկն առեւծն առ սուրբն Շաղիտայն ի լեառնն յորում նստէր. եւ զաւրէն մարդոյ ի վեր առեալ զթաթուլն ցուցանէր նմա զվէրն, նշանացէր նմա բժշկել զինքն: Իսկ սուրբն Շաղիտա հանէր զեղէգն որ ընդ վէրն մտեալ էր, եւ թքանէր ի վէրն, եւ թաշկինակաւն զոր ընդ գլուխն իւր էր ածեալ հանեալ պատէր զթաթ առիւծուն եւ բժշկէր: 

Եւ այսպէս բիւրապատիկ եւ պէսպէս առնէր զսքանչելիս: Եւ գազանք էին կենաց կցորդ նորա, մինչ շրջէր նա յանապատս զամենայն աւուրս կենաց իւրոց: Եւ ի գետ իբրեւ հասանէր, կաւշկաւքն անցանէր ի վերայ ջուրցն գետոցն, եւ ոչ թանային կաւշիկք նորա: Եւ յորժամ ի շէն ուրեք իջանէր, զբազում մոլորեալս դարձուցանէր նշանաւք եւ արուեստիւք: Միայն շրջէր. եւ իբրեւ իջանէր ի շէնս, առնէր բժշկութիւնս բազում հիւանդաց. եւ էր սա աւուրբք ծերագոյն:  

Բայց ամենայն մարդ սպասէր եւ ակն ունէր մահու նորա, վասն ըմբռնելոյ զմարմին նորա: Իսկ սուրբն Շաղիտայ իմացեալ զայս թէ սպասեն առնուլ զմարմին նորա բազում մարդիկ, ապա խնդրեաց Շաղիտա յԱստուծոյ, զի  մի՛ ոք ըմբռնեսցէ զմարմին նորա: Եւ եղեւ աւր մի յաւուրց, որպէս սովորութիւն էր իւր, գնալ ի վերայ ջուրցն գետոյն: Եւ մինչ դեռ անցանէր նա ընդ գետն Կորդուաց, ըստ խնդրուածոցն իւրոց որպէս եւ խնդրեաց նա, յանկարծակի իբրեւ կայր ի մէջ գետոյն յանկարծաւրէն ընդ ջրովն մտեալ սուրբն Շաղիտայն ծածկեցաւ: Եւ մեծ գոյժ եղեւ գաւառին.եւ ժողովեցան անչափ բազմութիւնք մարդկանն ի մի վայր եկեալք կուտեցան, մինչեւ հատին դարձուցին ընդ այլ շըրջեցին զգետն: Եւ խնդրէին զմարմինն սրբոյն Շաղիտայի,  եւ ոչ կարացին ուրեք գտանել. զի իւր խնդրուածքն առ Աստուած այսպէս էին լեալ յառաջագոյն, սոյնպէս եւ կատարեցաւ:
