յականջս թագաւորին իւրեանց. կոչեաց զնոսա եւ
սաստիւսաստ - reproach
ասաց.
Ո՞չ ապաքէն ես վիճակեցուցի զձեզ այսպէս բնակելՈ՞չ ապաքէն ես վիճակեցուցի զձեզ այսպէս բնակել - Didn't I determine for you to live this way?
. զի ոչ կարէք զկարգ ձեր փոփոխել թէ եւ կամիք. զի
ետու
տալ - to give
պէտս ունել միմեանցպէտք ունել միմեանք - to need one another
, զի լեռնականք զդաշտականաց
ոչ ինչ լնուն զտեղի ոչ ինչ լնուլ զտեղ - cannot fill the place of
, եւ ոչ դաշտականք զլեռնականաց,
ոչ ի բժշկութիւնս եւ ոչ յայլ ինչ ոչ ի բժշկութիւնս եւ ոչ յայլ ինչ - not in medicine and not in anything else

եւ այսու համոզեաց զնոսա
եւ այսու համոզեաց զնոսա - and with this he convinced them
։
Ի միտ տայ առնուլ առակս
զնախախնամութիւնն Աստուծոյ ամենայն ուրեք նախախնամութիւն Աստուծոյ ամենայն ուրեք - the providence of God everywhere
՝ ըստ կարգի
մատակարարել զլեռնայինս եւ զդաշտայինսմատակարարել զլեռնայինս եւ զդաշտայինս - administers to the mountain [flower]s and plain [flower]s
. Եւ զի զմիմեանց ոչ լնուն զտեղի,
եւ պէտս ունին իւրաքանչիւրքն միմեանցեւ պէտք ունին իւրաքանչիւրն միմեանց - each one needs the other
.
ոչ է պարտ պարսաւանս ունել առ այնոսիկ
ոչ է պարտ պարսաւանս ունել առ այնոսիկ - [one] ought not to blame these
,
այլ ըստ կարգի արարչին մեծարել զընկերս եւ զեղբարս
այլ ըստ կարգի արարչին մեծարել զընկերս եւ զեղբարս - but rather, to honor friends and brothers according to the Creator's plan.

Once there was a quarrel between the flowers of the mountains and the flowers of the fields. For the jonquil, the rose campion, the marigold and others like them could not bear the criticism of field flowers [such as] the checkered lily, the tulip and others like them who criticized [the mountain flowers] as rustic and useless, yet considered themselves geniuses, prepared for medicine/healing and handy for representation. This [argument] reached their king's ear. He summoned them and said, with severity: "Truly did I not cause you to dwell so? You cannot change your rank even if you want to. I made you need each other, for the mountain [flowers] cannot take the place of the plain [flowers], nor vice versa, not in medicine nor in anything else." And thus did he convince them.
The fable calls to mind the providence of God in everything, which distributes in order the mountain and plain [flowers] such that one not take the other's place, and so that they need each other. One should not find fault with them; rather, according to the Creator's arrangement, one should honor comrades and brothers.
