Sirens and Onocentaurs
Regarding the yushkapariks, Physiologus says that they are bringers of death and dwell in the sea. They sing sweet-sounding songs, and should sailors, who are passing by, listen to those melodies they lose control of themselves—to the point that they hurl themselves from their boats and perish. The appearance [of this type of yushkaparik] down to the waist is that of a woman, while the remainder [of the body] is that of a bird. There are other [types of yushkaparik, such as the onocentaurs] which are half man with the other half being [part of] an ass or a bull.
