Վասն աւթողոփու

Է երէ ինչ, որ կոչի աղթողոփոս. Սաստիկ է գազանն. որսորդաց չէ հնար զնա ի բուռն արկանել. Եղջիւրք ունի երկայն եւ սղոցաձեւ. մինչեւ զծառս մեծամեծս սղոցել։ Եւ յորժամ ծարաւեսցի գնայ յԱրածանի գետ եւ ըմպէ ջուր. եւ են պրակք ինչ մանրոստք, որ կոչին երեկինք։ Եւ սկսանի՛ ոգորել երէն ընդ երեկին պրակսն. եւ խառնեալ ծայրք ոստոցն ընդ եղջիւրսն կապին ընդ ոստս պրակին։ Եւ ի գոչիւն հարկանի. քանզի զերծանել կամի եւ չէ ձեռնհաս իւր. քանզի պատեալ շաղեալ կայ։ Լսեն զգոչիւնն որսորդքն եւ գան սպանանեն զնա։

Antelope

There is an animal called the antelope. It is fierce. Hunters are unable to catch it [easily]. [The antelope] has long horns which are saw-like, to such an extent that it can saw through very large trees. When it becomes thirsty, it goes to the Aratsani [Eastern Euphrates] River and drinks the water. In that area there are shrubs with small branches, called hedgehog-shrubs. The antelope begins to butt the hedgehog-shrub, and its horns get tangled up with the ends of the branches. It gets stuck. It begins to howl because it wants to break free, but cannot. Hunters hear its cry, come, and kill it.
