ԻԳ.

 

Արդ համբարձեալ գնացին յերկրէ արեւելից, եւ մինչդեռ գային ընդ երկիր՝ դիպեցան երկրինՍինեարայ՝ կարի յոյժ լայնի, ուր աշտարակ շինել ձեռնարկեցին. պաճարանս հնարէին ի ձեռն նորա զերկինսն ել՝ ի յիշատակաց նոցին որ յետ նոցայն մարդկան կարացեալք թողուլ զիւրեանց գործն. եւ զշինածն թրծեալ աղիւսով եւ կպերբ լինէր, եւ յառաջատութիւն առնոյր համարձակութիւն յանդգնութեանն նոցա՝ ամենեցուն միաբանախորհ եւ համակաց եղելոց, եւ ի ձեռն միոյ ձայնին սպաս արբանեկութեանն տալով խորհրդի կամացն իւրեանց:

 

        Արդ զի մի՛ աւելի եւս յառաջատեսցէ գործն՝ բաժանեաց նոցա զլեզուսն Աստուած, զի մի՛ եւս կարասցեն միմեանց լսել. եւ այսպէս սփռեալ ցրուեցան եւ կալան զաշխարհս, ըստ իւրումն իւրաքանչիւր ոք լեզուի ջոլրաբար, երամաւրէն բնակէին, ուստի բազմազինք զանազանք եւ այլալեզուք ի վերայ երկրի։ Արդ վասն զի երեք ազգ մարդկան կալան զերկիր, եւ էր մինն ի նոցանէ ի նզովսն, երկուքն յաւրհնութեան. եւ առաջին Սեմայ եղեւ աւրհնութիւն, որոյ ազգն յարեւելս բնակէր եւ զՔաղդէացւոցն ունէր աշխարհ։

XXIII.

Now, rising up, they departed to the land of the East, and on the way, they happened upon the very extensive land of Shinar, where they undertook to build a tower as a means of ascending to heaven and to leave their work as a memorial to future generations. The building was made of burnt brick and tar and their arrogant audacity progressed, all of them being together in unanimous thought and their one language serving the purpose of their will.

        Now lest their work progress further, God divided their language so that they could no longer understand each other. And thus, they were scattered and dispersed and occupied the earth, organizing into groups according to their languages, whence arose the various communities and languages upon the earth. Now because the three races of men occupied the earth, one being under the curse and two under the blessing, the first blessing came to Shem, whose race dwelt in the East and occupied the land of the Chaldeans.
