Ցոյցք Առաքելական Քարոզութեան

ԻԲ.

 

Իսկ յետ ջրհեղեղին եդ Աստուած ուխտ կտակարանի ամենայն աշխարհի, այլեւս ամենայն կենդանի անասնոցն եւ մարդկան, որպէս զի մի՛ եւս ջրհեղեղիւ ապականեսցէ զամենայն յարութիւն երկրի. եւ եդ նշանակ նոցա. «Յորժամ՝ ամպով ծածկեսցի աւդդ՝ երեւեսցի աղեղն յամբ, եւ յիշեցից զուխտ կտակարանին իմոյ, եւ ոչ եւս կորուսից զամենայն շարժուն կայտառ ի վերայ երկրի ջուրբ»։ Եւ փոխեաց զկերակուր մարդկան՝ հրաման տուեալ նոցա միս ուտել. քանզի ի նախաստեղծէն Ադամայ մինչ ՝ի ջրհեղեղն միայն սերմանաւք եւ պտղովք ծառոց կերակրէին մարդիկ, բայց մսոց կերակուր ո՛չ էր թողացուցեալ նոցա: 

Եւ վասն զի երեք որդիքն Նոյի սկիզբն ազգի մարդկան էին, ի բազմութիւն եւ յաճուն աւրհնեաց զնոսա Աստուած ասելով. «ԱՃեցէք եւ բազմացարուք եւ լցէք զերկիր եւ տիրեցէք դմա, եւ ահ ձեր եւ երկիւղ եղիցի ի վերայ ամենայն կենդանի անասնոց եւ ի վերայ ամենայն թռչնոց երկնի, եւ եղիցին ձեզ ի կերակուր, իբրեւ զբանջար խոտոյ. բայց միայն միս արեան շնչոյ ո՛չ ուտիցէք, եւ քանզի զձեր արիւն խնդրեցից ի ձեռաց ամենայն գազանաց եւ ի ձեռաց մարդոյ. որ հեղցէ արիւն մարդոյ՝ փոխանակ արեան նորա հեղիցի». զի կերպարան Աստուծոյ արար զմարդն, եւ կերպարան Աստուծոյ որդին է, որ ըստ կերպարանին եղեւ մարդն։ Եւ վասն այսորիկ ի վերջին ժամանակս երեւեցաւ, զի զկերպարանն նման ինքեան ցուցցէ: Յետ այսր կտակարանի բազմացաւ ազգն մարդկան՝ ի զաւակէ երիցն բուսեալ: Եւ շուրթն մի ի վերայ երկրի, այսինքն է մի լեզու։

After the flood God made a covenant with the entire world, including all the living animals and men, that he shall no more spoil everything that rises upon the earth, and he gave them a sign: “whenever I form clouds over the earth and a rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember the oath of my covenant, and never again will the waters destroy all life upon earth” (Genesis 9:14-15). And He changed the food of men and gave them permission to eat meat, because from the first man Adam until the flood, people sustained themselves only by seeds and the fruit of trees, and to eat meat was not permitted to them.

But since the three sons of Noah were the beginning of the race of man, God blessed them to multiply and be fruitful, saying: “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and rule it, and the fear and dread of you shall be upon all living animals and upon all the birds of the sky, and everything shall be yours to eat, as with the green plants. But you must not eat meat with its life-blood still in it, and for your own blood I will demand an accounting from every animal and from every man. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man will his blood be shed” (Genesis 9:1-6). For God made man in His image, and the image of God is the Son. And for this reason he appeared in the last times, that he might show the image to be like Himself. After this testament, the race of man multiplied, and increased from the descendants of these three. And there was one lip upon the earth, which is to say, one language.
