Կանոնք

Սրբոյն Սահակայ Պարթեւի

Յաղագս Եպիսկոպոսաց թէ ո՛րպէս պարտ է ունել զընտանիս սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ։

Ա.4

Տեսանէ՞ք, զի զոր յոլով ժամանակաւք տաժանիք եւ ջանայք արմատացուցանել, զկէս աւուրցն կազմէք որոգայթ սատակման. ըստ այնմ, թէ «Որ ամբարէ զմեծութիւն առանց իրաւանց՝ ՚ի կէս աւուրց իւրոց լքցէ զնա»։ Զայս ոչ եթէ յաղագս ամաւթ ինչ առնելոյ զոք ասեմ ՚ի խոր խոցելով յանդիմանութեամբս, այլ զի ամենեւին մի՛ երեւեսցի յեկեղեցւոջ այսպիսի անաւրէն սովորութիւն. քանզի արմատ է ընդհանուր չարեաց, եւ պէսպէս աղծապիղծ անառակութեանց. վասն որոյ բարկութիւնն Աստուծոյ։

The Canons of Saint Sahak

Regarding bishops and how they shall keep the members of the Holy Church.

Do you see that the very thing that you toil and struggle for a long time to implant, you ensnare with traps of death in the midst of your days? Thus: “He who amasses riches, but not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days.” (Jeremiah 17:11) I do not say this to put anyone to shame by crushing them with my reprimand, but in order that such an impious custom may not be seen at all in the Church. For it is the root of general harm and of diverse, abominable pleasures (cf. Titus 3:3), thus incurring the wrath of God.
