Սրբոյն Սահակայ Պարթեւի

Յաղագս Եպիսկոպոսաց թէ ո՛րպէս պարտ է ունել զընտանիս սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ։

Տեսանե՞ս զի ոչ ի ակնառութիւն առաջի Աստուծոյ. եթէ աչառիցէք, մեղս գործիցէք. արդարեւ որ ոչն վարիցի այսպիսի առաքինութեամբ եպիսկոպոսն, ոչ կարէ աշակերտ լինել տեառն, այլ յոյժ հեռի եւ աւտար է իբրեւ զմի ոք ՚ի ստունգանողաց փրկիչն։ Զպատուիրանաց սիրողս եւ զկատարողս սահմանեաց, ասէ, իւր եղբարս. եւ թէ, «Որ սիրէ զհար կամ զմայր, զուստերս կամ զդստերս առաւել քան զիս, չէ ինձ արժանի»։ Եւ դուք ՚ի բարձրանալ հրամանացն ՚ի վայր կործանեալ ընդ երկիր քարշելով կործանեալ ընդ երկիր քարշելով փարիք զտոհմային զազգականաւք. պէսպէս հնարելով հնարս զի գիրգ եւ փափուկք առնիցէք, եւ առաւել ստացութեամբն զեղուցուք զտունսն, մոռանալով զքստմնելի պատգամս ինքնասաց աւետարանին, թէ «Ամենայն տունք զոր ոչ տնկեաց հայր իմ երկնաւոր՝ խլեսցի»։

The Canons of Saint Sahak

Regarding bishops and how they shall keep the members of the Holy Church.

Do you see that there is no partiality before God? (cf. Acts 10:34) If you are partial, you commit sin. Truly, then the bishop who does not practice such virtue cannot be a disciple of the Lord, but is very far from him and a stranger like those who disobey the Savior. Those who love his commandments and fulfil them he established as his brothers, and said: “He that loves his father or his mother, his brothers or his sisters more than me, is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:37) And it is out of disdain for his commands and in destruction and profanation of them that you cling to your relatives, devising all kinds of means to make your houses tender and delicate and to make them overflow with more and more possessions, forgetting the frightening words of the Gospel itself: “Every plant which my heavenly father has not planted will be uprooted.” (Matthew 15:13)
