Սրբոյն Սահակայ Պարթեւի

Յաղագս Եպիսկոպոսաց թէ ո՛րպէս պարտ է ունել զընտանիս սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ։

Ա.1.

Այցելու եւ հասարակաց հայր է Եպիսկոպոսն. վասն այսորիկ առանց ակնառութեան պարտի զհաւատացեալս նմա յԱստուծոյ հաւտն, անաչառութեամբ յանձանձել զուխտս սրբոյ եկեղեցւոյ, տեսուչս եւ առաջնորդս գաւառաց եւ գիւղից կացուցանելով՝ որք անուանին Քորեպիսկոպոսք. զի սրբոց եւ նախանձաւորաց օրինաց, եւ հմուտ եղելոց վարդապետութեան՝ արժանաւոր է տալ զայնպիսի պատիւ, որք զժողովուրդն բաւական լիցին խրատել՝ շահելով զմեղանչականութեամբ մոլորեալսն, եւ պայծառացուցանելով զճշմարիտսն ճառագայթաւէտ պատուիրանացն պատմութեամբք։ Զի եւ քահանայք առանց տարակուսանաց ուսցին մեծարել զաստուածընկալ սեղանն յորոյ վերայ կատարի կենդանարար խորհուրդն ապրեցուցչին մերոյ տեառն. եւ զփրկական աւազանն մկրտութեան՝ որոյ ծննդեամբ վերըստին նորոգիմք ՚ի յոյս կոչմանն Աստուծոյ։

The Canons of Saint Sahak

Regarding bishops and how they shall keep the members of the Holy Church.

1.1.

The bishop is the overseer and father of the community. Therefore, he must indiscriminately guard the flock entrusted to him by God, impartially caring for the clergy of holy church, appointing supervisors and leaders of cantons and villages who are named chorepiscopoi. For it is incumbent on him to bestow such a dignity on those who are holy and zealous for the law, are skilled in teaching, and who shall be competent to instruct the people; profiting those who have gone astray in sinfulness, and elucidating truths by imparting enlightening precepts, so that priests may also, without wavering, learn to honor the God-receiving altar on which is fulfilled the life-giving sacrament of our Lord and Savior, and the redemptive font of baptism, born in which we are renewed to the hope of God's calling.
