Ցոյցք Առաքելական Քարոզութեան

ԺԵ.

 

Այլ զի մի մեծամեծս խորհեսցի մարդուն եւ համբարձեալ բարձրասցի, իբրու թէ ո՛չ ունիցի տէր, վասն տուելոյ սմա իշխանութեանն եւ համարձակութեան առ ի յարարողն իւր Աստուած սխալեսցի, անցեալ զիւրով զչափովն, եւ ինքնահանց կարծիս հպարտութեան առցէ հակառակ Աստուծոյ, տուաւ նմա աւրէնք յԱստուծոյ, զի ծանիցէ, եթէ տէր ունի զբոլորեցուն Տէր. եւ սահմանս ոմանս եդ նմա, որպէս զի, եթէ պահեսցէ զպատուիրանն Աստուծոյ՝ այսպիսի միշտ կացցէ մնացէ, որպիսի էրն, այսինքն է անմահ. ապա՝ եթէ ո՛չ պահեսցէ, զի մահկանացու եղիցի, լուծեալ յերկիր, ուստի առաւ ստեղծուածն նորա: Եւ պատուիրանն էր այս. «Յամենայն փայտէ, որ ի ներքս ի դրաստիդ ՝ ուտելով կերիցես, բայց ի փայտէն միայնոյ, յորմէ Ճանաչելն գոյ զբարին եւ զչարն՝ ոչ ուտիցէք ի նմանէ , զի յորում աւուր կերիջիք՝ մաՀու մեռանիջիք»։

But lest man should think great things or be exalted as though he had no Lord, and transgress against his Creator God because of the freedom and boldness granted to him, overstep his measure, and entertain self-determined thoughts of conceit contrary to God—God gave him law, that he may know that he had as lord the Lord of all. And He set certain limits upon him, so that by keeping the commandment of God, he should remain always as he was, that is, immortal. But if he should not keep it, then he should become mortal, dissolving into the earth from where he took his creation. And the commandment was this: “Of every tree in the garden you are free to eat; but as for the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you must not eat of it; for as soon as you eat of it, you shall die” (Genesis 2:16-17).
