Ցոյցք Առաքելական Քարոզութեան

ԺԴ.

 

Եւ էին Ադամ եւ Եւայ, քանզի այս է անուն կնոջն՝ մերկք, եւ ոչ ամաչէին, քանզի անմեղ եւ մանկական խորհուրդ էր ի նոսա, եւ ոչինչ ընդ միտ ածել եւ իմանալ գոյր նոցա յայնցանէ, որ ինչ միանգամ՝ չարութեամբ ի ձեռն հեշտ ցանկութեանցն եւ ամաւթալի ցանկութեամբք յոգւոջ ծնանի։ Քանզի էին յայնժամ՝ ամբողջք պահելով զիւրեանց բնութիւնն, վասն զի փչեցեալն ի ստեղծուածն շունչ էր կենաց: Արդ, կալով մնալով շունչն, յորում դասուն եւ զաւրութեան անիմաց եւ անընդմիտածող է վատթարացն: Արդ վասն այսորիկ ո՛չ ամաչէին՝ համբուրելով, զմիմեամբք շաղապատելով՝ սրբութեամբ տղայաբար։

And Adam and Eve, for this is the name of the woman, were naked and were not ashamed (Genesis 2:25), for their thoughts were innocent and childlike, and they did not contemplate and understand those things that are wickedly brought forth in the soul through voluptuousness and shameful desires. For at that time they kept their natures complete, for what was breathed into creation was the breath of life, and while the breath persisted, it did not conceive or contemplate evil things. Thus, they were not ashamed in kissing and embracing each other in holiness as children.
