Ցոյցք Առաքելական Քարոզութեան

ԺԳ.

 

Արդ, վասն զի Աստուած ի դրախտին, մինչդեռ շրջէր մարդն, էած զառաջեաւ զկենդանիս զամենայն եւ հրաման ետ անուանս դնել ամենեցուն նոցա, եւ ամենայն որ զինչ կոչեաց Ադամ անձն կենդանի՝ ասէր անուն նմա: Եւ կամ՝ եղեւ նմա եւ աւգնական մարդոյն առնել, քանզի այսպէս ասաց Աստուած. «Ոչ բարւոք է գոլ մարդուն միայն. արասցուք նմա աւգնական ըստ ինքեան». քանզի յայլ ամենայն կենդանիսն ոչ գտանիւր հաւասար եւ կշիռ եւ նման Ադամայ աւգնական։ Իսկ ինքն Աստուած հիացումն արկ ի վերայ Ադամա եւ ի քուն արար, եւ զի գործ ի գործոյ կատարեսցի՝ ոչն եղեալ ի դրաստին քունն սա եղեւ ի վերայ Ադամայ՝ կամեցեալ Աստուծոյ: Եւ առ Աստուած մի ի կողիցն Ադամայ եւ ելից ընդ այնր մարմին, եւ զկողն զոր էառ շինեաց ի կին եւ այսպէս էած առաջի Ադամայ։ Իսկ նա տեսեալ ասաց. «Սա աժմ ոսկր յոսկերաց իմոց, մարմին ի մարմնոյ իմմէ. սա կոչեսցի կին, զի յառնէ, իւրմէ առաւ»։

Now, as man walked around Paradise, God brought all the animals before him and commanded him to name them, and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name (Genesis 2:19). And He even wished to create a helper for man, for God said: “It is not good for man to be alone; I will make a fitting helper for him” (Genesis 2:18), for among all the other animals, not one was found equal and proportional and like unto Adam as a helper. Then God Himself caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam (Genesis 2:21); and as work is accomplished by work, sleep, which had never existed in paradise, came upon Adam by the will of God. And God took one of Adam’s ribs and filled flesh in its place, and he formed woman from the rib, and thus brought her before Adam. Seeing her, he said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man” (Genesis 2:21-23).
